Working in the investment sector opens up a new world of possibilities. One of the exciting things about investing is finding new ground to explore, like Indonesia, for instance. If you are a foreign investor who is looking for a fresh outlook, then you should apply for an investor KITAS to stay and invest in Indonesia.
Up to this point, you may have wondered what kinds of opportunities are available in Indonesia. In general, Indonesia covers a vast area that hides a lot of potential. Abundant natural resources, political stability, economic resilience, and increasing purchasing power in the domestic market are what make Indonesia a suitable place for investment.
If you think about staying in Indonesia to invest, then you must understand several things about the investor KITAS and how to get it. To help you learn more about this stay permit for foreign investors, you can check out the information we have curated below.
What is Investor KITAS?
First, you may wonder what KITAS is. It’s an acronym for Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas, which means a temporary stay card for foreigners. Basically, it’s a stay permit for foreign nationals who decide to reside temporarily in the country.
KITAS is commonly used interchangeably with ITAS (Izin Tinggal Terbatas). Both of the terms mean the same thing, which is a temporary stay permit for foreigners. ITAS is just the digital version of KITAS that usually comes in the form of a card.
With that knowledge, you can understand that the investor KITAS/ITAS, is a much-needed permit for foreign nationals who wish to stay and invest in Indonesia. As the name suggests, this type of KITAS/ITAS is only given to foreign investors.
There are two types of KITAS investors: C313 and C314. A C313 can grant you a stay as an investor for one year, while a C314 is valid for two years. Both C313 and C314 allow you, as a foreign investor in Indonesia, to leave and enter the country within the visa’s period of validity.
Investor KITAS or Working KITAS?
Maybe you have heard of the working KITAS/ITAS before. It’s a stay permit for foreigners who work in any line of business in Indonesia. The investor KITAS/ITAS, however, is only given to those who work in the investment sector.
KITAS/ITAS for investors has been around since 2011, but rebranded in 2019 with significant changes. Now foreign investors can easily obtain a stay permit that allows them to make investments in Indonesia with this KITAS. Instead of applying for both work and investment permits, investors only need to apply for one stay permit now. It essentially reduces the visa fee by $1,200 per year.
However, it should be noted that the holder of investor KITAS/ITAS is not permitted to work. With such a permit, foreign investors are only allowed to make investments in Indonesia. So, if you want to apply for this permit, you must consider your choices regarding the business activities you can do.
